Friends of Arrow Rock is excited to announce the development of a brand new program that will bring the exciting stories of Missouri's frontier days into the classroom: the School Program In A Box. Using a special piece of technology called Museum In A Box, we are able to tag artifacts and other items with special labels. When those items are placed atop the box, pre-recorded information about the item plays back -- it could be narration, music, a dramatic reading -- we're only limited by our imagination! Each Museum In A Box, plus the collection of reproduction items that we'll include in the classroom package, costs about $500.
Our intention is to provide this program to classrooms at no cost, so we will also be raising funds to cover the shipping costs to send and return the boxes. We hope the School Program In A Box initiative will allow us to reach schools that are beyond our immediate region.
We hope to have the first boxes ready to go by January 2021. The first program will have a Santa Fe Trail theme, in recognition of the bicentennial of the trail, and will be targeted to a third-grade age level. Future boxes will be developed with themes and activities for other age groups.
Thank you for helping us bring history to life for children in a fun new way!
